Great Stuff by Mom and Me
On a recent trip to one of my favorite parts of America, Rochester, New York, I had a delightful brunch at the totally vegan home of Ted and Carol Barnett. Ted and Carol are coordinators of the Rochester Area Vegetarian Society and parents of three beautiful and talented vegan children. In my opinion, the ideal American family!
I have come to love Rochester. The people are very much tuned into vegetarianism. The restaurants are magnificent. From what I have experienced, the activism for animal rights issues in this enlightened city is second to no other geographical region in America.
On that weekend trip, I also spent time with many old friends, gave a lecture or two, and enjoyed one very incredible vegan pot luck lunch.
The meal was partially catered by a mother and daughter who promised me that they would soon have a website up offering foods that I found to be delightful.
The only thing I found wrong with their website was the name: Good Stuff by Mom (Laurie) and Me (Rebecca).
So far I am concerned, they are selling themselves short. It should be called, “Great Stuff.” The memory I have of their goodies brings me back to details of the room in which the meal was served, and to specific conversations, which is remarkable, because I give so many talks and make so many appearances. It was the food, both magnificent and unforgettable, and best of all, totally raw and totally vegan. I remember complimenting them on their goodies, calling them the best I ever tasted. They were. My sincerity knew no bounds. I gave Laurie and Rebecca my home telephone number, telling them to call me if they ever put together a business and website. Last night, I got that phone call.
