good stuff is mom and me

Mom & Me have been eating a primarily raw food diet for over 8 years now. Our transition to a raw foods diet took over 15 years! During that time, we never imagined making a lifestyle out of eating all raw foods and didn't know anyone who had; but the curative benefits of raw foods are so widely discussed in medical literature, we found ourselves beginning to wonder what cooked food was good for? The healing power of raw foods has amazed us.

Yes, she really IS my mom (not my sister!). If you have always believed that disease is the inevitable byproduct of aging, you will be amazed by my mom: she is healing with age. Raw eating has restored the full mobility of her shoulders (aggravated by years of persistent bursitis); pain-free deep knee bends; a youthful figure; and provided relief from persistent laryngitis, back pain and a standard laundry list of small complaints.

As a mother of 5, mom is concerned that kids don't get to make healthy eating choices: moms (and dads!) do. Her mission is to help parents model good health to the next generation. Thanks mom! My mom also believes that good stuff is the fruit of the Spirit, and she wanted me to pass this on: "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth." 3Jn vs 2 KJV

Can raw foods go the distance? After bicycling over 4000 miles with me across Australia and New Zealand, even my biking buddy (on the chocolate diet) agreed: raw energy is undeniable. Having pedaled across the US on bagels and beans, and run a number of marathons both cooked and raw, I can't believe my new raw endurance and muscle recovery. The exchange? I do carry more fresh food than most cyclists - but that frees up an extra water bottle for sprout gardening!

I have lived all over the world eating primarily raw foods: with and without electricity, refrigeration or 'tools'; near and far from farms; mobile for months on my bike and isolated for months on islands and mountaintops. I have almost always enjoyed plentiful raw options once I figured them out. All of this is to say that eating a lot of raw food does take some getting used to, but it doesn't have to slow you down. A big lesson that I have learned is balance and flexibility. Raw food is a building block in a big picture with a lot of other components.
